Architecture
A tribute to Richard Meier for i.lab
i.lab, where architecture builds a sustainable legacy.

Pursuing the successful cooperation between  Italcementi and INTERNI Legacy which started few years ago, the 2012 FuoriSalone has been marked by a tribute paid by Italcementi to the US architect Richard Meier and his work.
The work with Richard Meier & Partners is a synergy that began in the late 1990s, with the construction of the Dives in Misericordia church in Rome, and has continued all the way to the i.lab, the new Research and Innovation Center of Italcementi Group located in the Kilometro Rosso technology and science park in Bergamo.

Italcementi has made it possible to realize the complex project ideas of leading contemporary architects through its laboratory research and experimental field work, from the development of increasingly sophisticated products to state-of-the-art structural and technological solutions, from the optimization of pre-fabrication construction techniques to green methodologies and models for sustainable buildings. In its commitment to smart building construction, Italcementi deploys a balanced combination of science and aesthetics, statics investigation and creative inspiration.

i.lab is the concrete expression of this commitment: research labs tasked with developing hi-tech products – like the TX Active photocatalytic cement and the i.light transparent cement – located in a facility which is, itself, a fusion of the best solutions and most innovative materials available in the construction industry today.

A place of sustainability, technological and architectural excellence that Italcementi  has chosen for INTERNI Legacy’s initiative.

The installation-tribute by Italcementi, positioned at the center of the Cortile d’Onore of the State University of Milan, is a white ‘cusp’, an evocative reference to the large overhang of the i.lab, made with special white photocatalytic TX Active concrete.

An outstanding technology research and business complex, as well as a facility for promoting culture and knowledge, on the occasion of its official opening i.lab brings excellence in architecture to Bergamo, hosting major names in international design during FuoriSalone exhibition week (April 16-22, 2012) and as part of the INTERIORS Legacy exhibition-event, with a series of lectures on “Architecture: building a sustainable legacy”.
