Italcementi is set up in 1864 in Scanzo (Bergamo) as Società Bergamasca per la Fabbricazione del Cemento e della Calce Idraulica. In 1927, when the company has already been quoted at the Milan Stock Exchange for two years, it changes its business name into Italcementi Spa. After becoming the leading cement manufacturer in Italy, at the end of the eighties it begins implementing the first initiatives to internationalise the Group.
From the operational point of view, Italcementi represents the leader in the cement manufacturing market in Italy and has an industrial system constantly adequation. After the revamping of the Calusco d’Adda plant, new interventions are underway in order to equip other plants in Lombardia, Sardegna, Basilicata and Sicilia with the state-of-the-art technologies from the environmental and productive point of view.
In 1997 Italcementi consolidates its verticalization strategy with the acquisition of Calcestruzzi, thus becoming Italian leader in the ready-mixed concrete sector.
After the revamping of the Calusco cement plant and the one underway in Matera, new improvement projects have been considered to introduce the BAT in other Italian plants with BAT, improving the plants industrial, environmental and safety standards.
