In September 2007 Italcementi Group announced the formation of an equally owned joint venture with Arabian Cement Company. The new company, International City for Concrete, is to operate in ready mixed concrete.
The first facility, opened in March 2009, has been built near the city of Jeddah and has begun production to meet the high demand generated by the construction of the new King Abdullah City, one of the six new cities planned by the Saudi state as part of its urban development program to foster new economic growth in Saudi Arabia.
The plant, which has 7 silos and 80 truck mixers, is placed close to areas designated for a port and for industrial areas, and has a capacity of around
1 Mm3/y making it one of the biggest in the world.
The ICC business plan projects rapid expansion in western Saudi Arabia to include the areas of Jeddah, Mecca, Taif, Yanbu and Medina over the next three years.
