Chronology
1864
The Società Bergamasca per la Fabbricazione del Cemento e della Calce idraulica is established.

1872
The Palazzolo plant is purchased by the Società Ferroviaria dell'Alta Italia (North Italian Railway Company).

1878
In the early months of the year the first cement plant belonging to the Fratelli Pesenti fu Antonio starts production in Nese (BG).

1904
Towards the end of the year, the Pesenti brothers consider acquiring the company guided by Piccinelli. The transaction, which would see the merger of the latter with the Pesenti brothers' company, was definitively accomplished in 1906 when the "Società Italiana dei Cementi e delle Calci Idrauliche - Società riunite: Italiana e Fratelli Pesenti" was founded.


1917
Merger with the Società Anonima Fabbrica Calce e Cemento di Casale.
The corporate name is changed to "Società Italiana e Società Fabbriche Riunite Cemento e Calce".

1920
After a brief period in Milan, the head office returns to Bergamo. 

                                               1925
The company is listed on the Milan Stock Exchange.

1927
Resolution regarding the new company name is passed. The company now comprises 33 plants with a cement output of 1.8 Mt, equal to 44% of the national market.

1942

Carlo Pesenti takes control of the company with the twin role of Managing Director and General Manager. The company's Chairman is his cousin Antonio.

1946

The Group reorganizes with the addition of three new companies: Sacelit, Cidi and Italmobiliare. Italmobiliare handles stocks not connected with core business.

1964 
When Italcementi celebrates its centenary in 1864, it has the thirteenth biggest turnover in Italy and operates 28 cement manufacturing plants and 8 associate companies.

 1973
The "Calce e Cementi di Segni" Group is acquired.

1979
Italmobiliare changes from a subsidiary to the parent company of Italcementi and the holding company of the Group.

1984
Following the death of his father, Giampiero Pesenti, already General Manager since 1983, is appointed Managing Director. Italcementi reaches a total cement production of 14 million tons with 30 plants and 6,500 employees.

1992
Ciments Français is purchased. The consolidated turnover for the new Group rockets to over 5 thousand billion Lire and places the Group amongst the world leaders in the sector.

1997

Calcestruzzi is purchased, an operation which completes the integration downstream of the core business into which Italcalcestruzzi is already engaged.
The new brand and corporate identity of the Italcementi Group is defined.

1998/1999

The internationalization move shifts towards emerging countries. Acquisitions in Morocco, Bulgaria, Kazakhstan and Thailand follow.

2001/2002
A joint-venture with Zuari Industries in India is created. Italcementi becomes the reference shareholder in Suez Cement, the leading Egyptian producer.

2004
Italcementi celebrates its 140th anniversary. Giampiero Pesenti is elected Chairman and Carlo Pesenti becomes Chief Executive Officer. In June the Fondazione Italcementi Cavaliere del Lavoro Carlo Pesenti is established.


2005

Expansion in the Egyptian market: shares held in Suez Cement raise to 51% and Asec Cement Company is acquired. The Group becomes the main operator in the country with more than 30% of the market.

2006
In India Italcementi acquires full control of the joint venture Zuari Cement to strengthen its presence. In Saudi Arabia a collaboration deal is signed with Arabian Cement Company.

2007
Italcementi acquires 100% of Fuping Cement Co. Ltd. through Italcementi’s Ciments Français subholding while, through its Egyptian subsidiary Suez Cement Company, becomes the new majority shareholder of Hilal Cement.
In Saudi Arabia formation of an equally owned joint venture with Arabian Cement Company, as part of its existing cooperation agreement with the Saudi enterprise. The new company, Arabian Ready Mix Company, is to operate in ready mixed concrete.
Italcementi enters the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index, the Index related the Corporate Social Responsibility that includes the best performers companies.
