High recognition bestowed upon Malaga cement plant
August 2007

The Malaga cement plant of Financiera y Minera, the Spanish subsidiary of Italcementi Group, attained noteworthy recognition of the major environmental measures implemented at its new facilities from the Consejería de Innovación, Ciencia y Empresa (Regional Ministry of Innovation, Science and Enterprise).  After positive evaluation, the Consejería - through the Andalusian Energy Agency - granted 1.2 million Euro to the cement plant underlining the substantive environmental impact mitigation targets reached, which will make it possible to reduce emissions of CO2 by 5% and of other flue gases by 15-32% as well as to curb energy consumption by 20%.

Details of the new Malaga cement plant project translating into tangible benefits for the environment were announced at a press conference held in the framework of the granting ceremony, also attended by Ms. María Gámez, Delegate of the Consejería.

Financiera y Minera invested some 100 millions Euro on this project aimed at pooling industrial growth opportunities and environmental sustainability issues.

Now that the construction of new production facilities is completed, the next - and final - step of the Malaga cement plant-revamping project will be the dismantling of the two old kilns.
