On 22 August 2008, the day of the company’s 19th anniversary, managers and employees from Asia Cement together visited the Rangsit Home for Babies, an institution for the care of orphans. The last few decades have seen the rise of a variety of social issues, particularly those affecting children and their right to survival and development.
The Thai Government has been taking prompt steps to tackle these issues. In particular, back on July 12, 1977, the Department of Public Welfare decided to create the Rangsit Home for Babies, a shelter for children in need of protection and care, with the aim of laying the foundation for the proper psychological, physical and social development of the child.
The Rangsit Home for Babies accommodates boys and girls aged from 6 months to 6 years: abandoned children, children from poor families or children under distress because of chronically ill, mentally ill or imprisoned parents.
Asia Cement donated 100,000 baht to support this project and ensure that children grow up in a family-like and loving environment under the care and protection of people responsible for providing them with the basic necessities and organising their daily life activities. In particular, caretakers are committed to educating children by providing them with schooling to improve their communication and listening skills and by correcting their temper, forming their manners and habits. Moreover, in addition to cooperating with doctors and nurses to provide children with health check-ups and vaccinations, the Home tries to track down the children’s parents. If searches prove unsuccessful, children can be adopted or, once they are aged six, referred to other children’s houses.
Likewise and consistently with the corporate social responsibility policy promoted by Italcementi Group, Jalaprathan Cement has celebrated its 52nd anniversary awarding the Golden Naga Scholarships. These grants are aimed at offering a real education opportunity to disadvantaged children living in the areas around the cement plants.
