In spite of the current gloomy financial mood, Italcementi Group is carrying on its commitment towards CSR programmes, thanks also to the efforts and resources lent by its subsidiaries which operate locally in 22 countries. In particular, two of the Asian companies namely ShymkentCement in Kazakhstan and Zuari Cement in India have been awarded for their responsibilities and good results achieved during 2008.
ShymkentCement (Kazakhstan) was awarded “Best Investor of 2008” by the Government of Tole Bi district (in the southern region of the country), for the engagement and results obtained with the implementation of CSR initiatives.Due to a memorandum of understanding between ShymkentCement management and the local government - where social and environmental responsibilities towards local community were fixed - the company had the opportunity to develop district infrastructures such as road repair, school renovation and the installation of the water pipe that supplies with drinkable water the surrounding villages where factory workers live.At the official ceremony held by local authorities, the Governor of Tole Bi district Mr. Kosherbay Batyr thanked, on behalf of Italcementi, Andrew Muckley General Manager of ShymkentCement, for the contribution, support and efforts done in 2008, which helped to develop the territorial infrastructures.
