The Zuari Cement plant in Andhrapradesh has adopted four nearby villages as part of its program of corporate social responsibility towards the local community. These villages are Thumallapalli, Valasapalli, Koduru and Peddanapadu, part of the Kadapa District of Andhrapradesh State. The plant intends to contribute to the improvement of living standards of the people in these areas. Actions have been and will be implemented in three basic fields: health and hygiene, education and sustainable livelihoods. In 2006, the company held several medical awareness camps, and medical check-up programmes in and around the four villages. It supported government health initiatives including Pulse polio, anti-leprosy medical camps, family planning operation camps and so on, and provided incentives to the people who underwent family planning operations in these camps. It also distributed tricycles to physically challenged people through the Red Cross Society in Kadapa.
