In 2002 the Group committed to voluntarily reduce its specific carbon emissions down to 711 kg CO2 per ton of cementitious materials in the period 2008-2012.
Enhanced strategic planning in 2007, focused on CO2 emission reduction, has allowed the Group to update its target and set a more ambitious goal of 690 kg CO2 per ton of cementitious materials by 2012.
The Group is committed to reaching these targets by:
- improved thermal efficiency of processes
- extended use of alternative fuels and biomass
- increased use of alternative raw materials and cement blending.
