Over the last ten years, Italcementi Group has been continuously committed to developing and strengthening its system of SD policies, while at the same time promoting their spread and effective application across the different organisational levels. The core of this system includes the following policies:
Charter of Values Italcementi Group is committed to the full application of certain common principles and values in all the countries in which it operates. These take as their starting point the central importance of the human being and respect for human rights in general and workers in particular. This constitutes the basis of the Group’s value of “equality”, including respect for diversity and cultural, linguistic and operational differences. In order to promote the spread of these values among the Group, the Charter has been translated into local languages and distribution was fully completed in 2006 to all countries where the Group operates, to the sole exception of one country where distribution is scheduled for April 2007.
Environment Policy This is a central element of the Group’s mission and carries the same importance as productivity, efficiency, quality, health, safety and technological development. This policy reflects Italcementi Group’s proactive approach to anticipating environmental risks, as well as the Group’s commitment to constantly monitoring the plants it operates worldwide, in order to optimise the use of non-renewable resources in production processes and to apply environmental standards that meet or may exceed local environmental regulations.
Safety Policy Italcementi Group’s Safety Policy is applied to each and every workplace, with the goal of eliminating occupational accidents by applying the best safety standards, encouraging a culture of risk prevention and fostering the adoption of responsible behaviour by all employees and those working or having relations with the Group. In 2000 the Safety Policy was boosted by the launch of the “Zero Accidents” project, which has gradually been adopted by all production units.
Subcontracting Policy The Group assumes responsibility for the working conditions of the employees of its subcontractors and requires subcontracting companies to: observe employment laws and the ethical treatment of employees; guarantee adequate health and safety conditions; limit particularly unpleasant or demanding situations and tasks; and implement all necessary actions for developing and increasing awareness and professional behaviour. It also monitors the performance of subcontractors.
Competition Policy This derives directly from the Code of Ethics and is applied to all subsidiaries and production units of the Group through specific training, communication and internal control programmes.
