In recognition of its social role and in order to encourage socially responsible behaviour among all its subsidiaries and employees, Italcementi Group is committed to implementing its Sustainability policies and guidelines at Group level.
To support this process, a dedicated Sustainable Development Steering Committee was created in 2002, and reorganised in 2006, to:

translate the Group’s vision into specific policies throughout all subsidiaries;
support and monitor the Group’s Sustainability strategy and its implementation by all subsidiaries;
define and implement an external communication programme.

Chaired by the Group Chief Operating Officer (COO), the Committee is co-ordinated by the Director of Group Environmental Affairs (GEA) and is composed of Zone Managers and Key Function Directors including those from Group Technical Centre, Human Resources, Administration and Control, Communication and Image, Research and Development, and Safety. In 2006, it was decided to extend membership to all members of the Management Committee to ensure proper alignment of all Group operations.

The GEA function has the task of establishing guidelines for sustainability and environmental protection and promoting their implementation throughout the Group. It participates actively in national and international consultations with public bodies, professional organisations and stakeholders, addresses future environmental regulations and helps Group sites to anticipate, comprehend and implement them.
