"This is the fourth edition of Italcementi Group’s Sustainable Development Report, and I am sincerely proud to say that it is the result of our growing commitment for Sustainability as well as of a strong improvement in our reporting process. We are all aware that this reporting activity is a key-tool to develop and implement our Group’s Sustainability strategy. That is why we spent increasing efforts in improving the quality of our reporting methodology as well as in making the Sustainability KPIs compliance effective in all our affiliated companies.

Improving the quality and transparency of our fourth Sustainable Development Report has meant to us the implementation and monitoring of existing policies and guidelines, but also the development of new engagements and targets. Moreover, this has brought us to show measurable progress in the implementation of our Group’s voluntary commitments.

On the other hand, our management system has been strengthened to assure a greater compliance with Italcementi Group’s Sustainability strategy in all our subsidiaries through a dissemination and roll-out of our Charter of Values and Codes, the alignment of newly acquired subsidiaries, a better structured Sustainability monitoring process and a stricter internal compliance audit and follow-up.

Where are we driving our future actions? We confirm our long-term commitment to Sustainable Development: Italcementi Group’s co-Chairmanship of the Cement Sustainable Initiative launched in 2000 by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development increases our awareness and responsibility. But this in not enough. We know our priorities and we want to take concrete actions to put them into practice.

First of all, we intend to give our contribution to tackle climate change through a growing effort in the reduction and management of our Greenhouse Gases emissions.In our sustainability strategy, environment protection must go hand in hand with the safeguard of our people: employee health and safety is therefore a second priority of our Group.

And here comes our third priority: to minimise the impact of our industrial activity, taking care of the needs of local communities. In our view, the path towards Sustainability does not only mean a “technical” multi-stakeholder approach. It involves us as human beings willing to create a spread and equitable well being with respect of diversity, cultural identities and natural resources."
