A set of common guidelines for training activities is in place for all Group companies. These guidelines were designed and implemented under the direction of the Group’s Human Resources Department. The Group’s support for young professionals and students includes partnerships with schools, universities and research centres, and is effectively developed through internship programmes and training periods.
The Group’s training programmes are designed to prepare a new generation of technicians and managers for international careers. In addition to specific training, participants have the opportunity to get to know each other and to acquire the “Group spirit”. Appropriate training programmes are also provided for employees as they advance through their careers. During 2006, organisational programmes involving key professional figures from different Group subsidiaries (such as the Junior Engineering Training (JET) programme) witnessed a growing participation of employees from the recently consolidated countries, particularly Egypt. Training courses focused on Corporate Governance, “Zero Accidents” and “Sustainable Development” were held in all Group subsidiaries. Important training initiatives adopted in 2006 included:
- workshops on the marketing of new products and services;
- meetings focused on improving project management;
- seminars on international trading and market analysis.
In 2006, the Group’s training programmes recorded 23,225 participations, for a total of almost 262,900 hours. 43% of the training hours were focused on subjects including managerial skills, finance, administration and control, marketing and sales, information technology, languages and development of individual skills. Compared to 2005, more attention was given to professional qualifications and refresher programmes in 2006, including basic and specialised programmes in specific business areas (cement, concrete and aggregates), accounting for 27% of total training hours; 80,120 hours (30% of the total) were spent on programmes dealing with safety in the workplace (including Zero Accidents courses).
